RV batteries are quite literally your RV’s lifeline, so treating them with care is of the utmost importance as a camper. Follow these top tips from Shane to learn how to maintain and extend the life of your RV battery!

CHECK YOUR WATER LEVELS

When it comes to battery maintenance there are a few simple things you can do to extend your battery’s life. Always make sure to have to keep your battery filled with distilled water only. Check the water levels as often as you can before you go camping.

CHECK YOUR BATTERY VOLTAGE

Checking your battery voltage is always a good idea and very easy. You can purchase an inexpensive voltage meter make sure your battery is fully charged at around 12.6 Volts. If it is below 12 Volts you will need to charge it by simply plugging in your RV shore power or taking the battery off of the RV and connecting it to a trickle charger.

MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED

When storing your battery over the winter it needs to be fully charged throughout the season. If it begins losing charge or is disconnected without enough charge during winter storage, it will freeze.

Another good practice when maintaining your batteries is to use a battery cleaner, battery terminal protector and dielectric grease.

If you keep your batteries properly maintained and charged they will last between three to seven years. If the batteries lose all charge and are charged up again often the battery life will be between six and twelve months.
